Eureka I think I found a match

2/1/2003

Hi Larry:
I've been doing some checking and I found that ANDERSON CLIFFORD HIATT died 27 March 1932, Traverse Co., MN. The same county his son Clarence died. So then I turned tothe census and in the 1920 census, Minnesota, Traverse Co., Lake Valley Twnsp, pg. 7a, line 22:

HIATT, Anderson C. Head/ Male/ Wh/ age 58/ mar./ b. IA F. b. SC, M. b. IN
Laura Wife F / Wh/ age 54 m. in PA, b. PA, parents b. in PA
Clarence L. Son, M/ Wh/ age 33/ single b. IA, Father b. IA, mother b. PA
Bert son, M/ Wh/ age 27/ single/b. IA/ Father b. IA, mother b. PA
Carl C. son, M/ Wh/ age 21/ single/b. IA/ " "
Frank E. son, M/ Wh/ age 18/ single/b. IA/ " "
Lester grandson, M/ Wh/ age 11/ Single b. IA/ Father b. IA Mother b. MN

Then in the 1910 Census, MN, Traverse Co., Taylor Twnshp, page 3a, line 20
HIATT, Clifford head 39
Lora wife 43 9 births 9 still living
Fred son 21
Bert son 20
May dau 18
Jesse dau 15
Beatrice dau 12
Carl son 10
Grace dau 8
Frank son 7

By 1910, Clarence was married to Cora Adams, lester should be 1 but I haven't found them on a census yet. I did find Cora HIATT in the 1920 Montana Census workign in a motel in Bozeman listed as divorced. She later married a Yetter and had two more children in Washington State.

In the 1930 Census I found a Roy HIATT m. to a Nora living in Traverse Co., age and everthing else matched.

On Clarence's Social Security application it says a Lula Miller, but it was typednot hand written so it could be a typo error.

I got to thinking about the Anderson Clifford and Clarence Leroy and how they went by both names. I checked your data base and lo and behold, I found a CLfford HIATT, m. to a Lora Miller, with a ROy HIATT as a son All the ages and locations seem to match so I'll let you take a look and see if you think the sources I've found make this the same HIATT line. Whew

The Hiett and Fichter Families of Brown Co., Ohio by Bruce Grimes.
In March 1863, John Sr. lost his son, Jackson, whose Will was found in Will bk #4 (1860-68) p. 116. It was written Jan 17, 1863, and brought to court for probate March 10, 1863 by attorneys for John Hiett. He left everything to his father John Hiett and his brother John Hiett. his residence was Huntington Township. He seems not to have had a family of his own as he does not leave anything to a widow or children. Jackson died just two months after T.W. Hiett; his will was written about the time of TW's death and seems to anticipate his own; could they have shared a contagious disease?

My family knew this family quite well and had many associations with them as my mother recalled visiting them as a young lady and that Andrew had come to her house to visit her family in Omaha.
A fun story was one where Bert had been running bootleg from MO to Omaha and had stored some of it in Andrews barn in Council Bluffs and that Andrew was busted for having possession of it. He was not too happy with Bert over that.
