David Hiatt, Pierre, S.D., says he was named after an Uncle Dave Hiatt who
"blew into the place the day I was born." (That would be a half-grand Uncle.)

Listed in the 1830 Census of Henry County, lists David Hiatt as 1 male
between 30 to 40 and one female between 30 to 40.
Listed in the 1840 Census of Cass Co., lists David Hiatt as 1 male between
40 to 40 and one female between 30 to 40.
Listed in the 1850 Census of Cass County records show David Hiatt as age 50 but no female listed. I take this to mean that his wife died between 1840 and 1850. There is no record of her death around Cass County. It is rumored that if you were Indian that no records were kept or that you weren't counted.

From Mildred Monthly Meeting-Waye County Indiana
Abstracts of the Records of the Society of Friends in Indiana by Williard
Hess Part 4 - Page 73.
7-23-1825 David reported married contrary to discipline. Both parties were members of the Society of Friends and were married by a civil ceremony.
Haven't been able to find a marriage license for them. His wife's name was Martha Jane Butler.
The nearest I came to any records was from Mr. and Mrs. Luther Koehring of Richmond, Indiana who are Custodian of Records. From Milford Monthly Meeting Minutes of 7-23-1825.
A complaint against David Hiatt for accomplishing his marriage contrary to our order Peter Pearson and Samuel Staford are appointed to visit him on that account and report of the matter to next meeting.
The committee that was appointed to see David Hiatt reports that he appears disposed to make satisfaction, he appeared with an offering condeming his outgoing which is accepted and he's restored to the privileges of society.
The name of his wife was not mentioned.
David Hiatt went to live with his daughter, Celinda Jane (Hiatt) Cox
in Iowa around 1867. He is supposedly buried at Clarinda, Iowa but his
grave has never been located. He is listed in the 1870 Census of Page County, Iowa., age 75.
One one of David son's (Harmon Hiatt) death certificate it lists his father as David Hiatt, birthplace as South Carolina and his mother's maiden name as Butler, birthplace as Georgia.
On my great grandmother's (Julia Ann Hiatt Van Meter) death certificate it lists her father as David Hiatt, birthplace Virginia, and the name of her
mother was left blank and lists her birthplace as Pennsylvania.
Fall Creek mo. Stg Highland Co., Ohio 18-5 mo 1816 David Hiatt disowned for disunity.
Henry County Indiana Atlas page 24.
David Pickering came into the township from Ohio, while it was yet a part of Henry township, and in September, 1836, located the town of Cadiz seven miles west of the ocunty seat. John B. Swazey was the first merchant here in 1837. Other merchants who came afterwards were David Hiatt, John W. Grubbs, Henry Clay Grubbs and George B. Rogers.

Bernice Norris of South Bend, IN wrote further, 8 Apr 2000:
David HIATT was listed in the 1870 census, Page Co., Iowa as being 75 at the time. Don Grand Cox figured David Hiatt died sometime prior to 1880.
Don and his brother (Frank) checked out Clarinda, IA and KS. I've been checking out Twelve Mile, Logansport and many cemeteries in that area butr all of us have been unsuccessful in finding where David HIATT and his wife (Martha F. Butler "Patsy") are buried.
