D/o William M. Booher and Rhoda Hampton. See Booher Family History Bk.
Elzira Booher Hiatt and Elizabeth (Aunt Bet) Booher were full sisters.
Their father William Booher was widowered and in 1840 married Silas Hiatt's
Aunt Lydia Kenworthy Cox, who was also a widow. Then then had Rhoda Booher
Tribbett, Martha Booher Bowers and Al (Uncle Al) Booher,.
Elzira Booher Hiatt moved by wagon train with her family and a group of
people who were seeking a new home in Indiana, from Tennessee when she was a
young girl. She was a small woman and I remember her well. She was the usual
pioneer farm wife and I remember my father saying she waited on her husband
hand and foot. She also had a large loom in an upstairs room and she wove rag
carpets and rugs for the entire country side. She was proud of the fact that
in one day she wove 25 yards of rag carpet. She also had a spinning wheel
which would be priceless if we had it now. In the same room I remember seeing
hoops like women wore under hoop skirts. After they moved into Darlington she
and her Old main sister Betty Booher and her younger daughter Belle formed a
dress making group. Belle married and my sister Ethel joined the group. Aunt
Bettie Booher's house was the house in which Bert and Leota Saidla died. They
bought it after Bettie death. The sewing group lasted until a short time
before my Grandmother's death.
