Alexander Hiatt b 29 Jan 1852, Grant Co, IN d 25 Oct 1925, Sullivan Co, IN. May have been named John Alexander Hiatt. He married Eliza Jane Goodman, daughter of Abraham and Martha Woolery Goodman. William moved with parents in 1885 to a farm in Grant County, Kansas,
attended elementary school at Maple Grove School, District No 77 near the Post
Office of Vietsburg, which school in 1888 moved to a location one mile east of
Kimball, Kansas, in 1891 attended Kansas State Normal School at Ft. Scott,
Kansas.
William and Myra were married by Rev. Seeley, Friends Minister of Stark,
Kansas at the home of Myra Pearle. Moved to nearby farm of Paschal Seeds and
made a crop, in Nov. 1896 William and Myra moved to Savonburg, Kansas where
Willlaim ran a retail and repair harness and show shop for Henry Johnson, an
immigrant from Sweden; in March 1897 William and Myra returned to the James
Matthais farm near Kimball, Kansas where they made a crop and lived till
spring of following year; a son William Gurney was born 1897 and in April 1898
William, Myra and William Gurney moved to Parson, Kansas where William worked
as assistant to Dr. Lewellyn T. Richards, a Veterinary Surgeon; lived for two
months in apartment over a apartment over a grocery store on Broadway and two
months in a 1 1/2 story house on Crawford Avenue. While working for Dr.
Richards, William became interested in studying veterinary surgery, in July
1898 William and Myra stored their household belongings in the home of Ira
Miller on the Smith farm four miles north of Parsons; Myra and son William
Gurney lived with Myra's parents from September 1898 to April 1899 while
William attended Ontario Veterinay College in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In
April 1899 William, Myra and son moved to Kimball, Kansas where William
assisted and represented Dr. Richards of Parsons in that territory, in Aug 1899
moved to James M. farm and sold all of their farm stock and most household
furnishings; James M, Eliza, William, Myra and William Gurney were overland by
covered wagon to Greenfield, Ind. arriving there in Sept 1899; William went to
Chicago, Ill. where he attended McKillip Veterinary College for five months,
Myra and son, William Gurney, returned to the A. Zimmerman far in Neosho
County, Kansas through Illinois where they visited the families of Myra's uncle
John in Colchester, Ill. and Myra's grandfather Nicholas Royal Teas in Macomb,
Ill. William returned to the A. Zimmerman farm in Feb. 1900; on March 13, 1900
a daughter Myemma Mildred was born, in May 1900 William and Myra and son and
daughter moved to Chanute, Kansas, in July 1900 they moved to the Green side of
town while William practiced veterinary surgery, in Oct 1900 William returned
to McKillips Veterinary College in Chicago, Ill. in Jan 1901 he had typhoid
fever and was confined in Cook County Hospital for 3 or 4 weeks, returned to J.
M Hiatt farm near Kimball, Kansas; in April or May 1901 William and Myra and
children moved to Emporia, Kansas where William Served as assistant to Dr. W H.
Richards, a brother of Lewellyn T. in Parsons, in July 1901, the family moved
to the Hood property in Erie, Kansas where they lived till Sept. In Sept 1901
William returned to Chicago Veterinary College, successor to McKillips of
Doctor of Comparative Medicine, during William's last year at school Myra and
son and daughter lived with Myra's parents, in April 1902 William and Myra and
children moved to Erie, Kansas where William practiced veterinary surgery until
Aug 1902 when he received an appointment as government meat inspector in the
packing plants of Wichita, Kansas, the family remained in Erie, in Dec 1902
William was transferred to the meat inspection force in the packing plants at
Kansas City, Kansas; the family moved to a home on Sandusky Ave where they
lived till Jun 1903. During big flood at Kansas City, Myra and children went
to the A. Zimmerman home in Neosho County where on July 1, 1903 a son Herman
Hugh was born, while the family was absent William moved their household goods
to a home on Ohio Ave in Kansas City, in Aug. 1903 William was transferred to
the live stock inspection department of the U.S. Bureau of Animal Idustry and
assigned to field inspect on of cattle at Geary, Okla; the family lived in
furnished rooms in the Maguire's home, in Sept William Gurney started public
school in Geary, in Feb 1904 William was transferred to Parson, Kansas with
offices in the railroad depot, the family lived on Appleton Ave, in Aug 1904
they moved into a house on Stevens Ave, in Mar 1905 William was transferred to
Nelogany, Okla a junction point between the Midland Valley and Katy Railroads
with only a railroad station and on houses, the family moved to Erie, Kansas
where they lived in the Ira Miller home. On March 10, 1905 a daughter
Charlotte Pearle Hiatt was born, in July 1905 the family moved to the A.
Zimmerman home, in Oct 1905 William was transferred to El Reno, Okla. where the
family lived at 515 Rock Island Ave, in May 1906, William was transferred to
Okla City, Okla where the family lived first at 32 Harrison Ave, in Sept 1907
the family moved to a residence at 224 West 9th St. in Okla City, in Sept 1908,
William was transferred to Kansas City, Kansas where the fmily lived in a
residence on North 7th St. until the Spring of 1909 when they purchased a
residence at 1015 Quindora Boulevard, on Nov 24, 1909 a daughter Esther Agnes
Hiatt was born, in Jun 1911, William was transferred and moved his family to
Nowata, Okla where they lived on West Pine St. on April 17, 1912 a son, Allen
Brewer Hiatt was born, on May 15, 1912 Anthony and Maranda ZImmerman arrived to
visit and on May 16, Maranda died of a hear attack, in summer of 1912, William
and Myra and family moved to Claremore, Okla where they lived first in
residence on East 3rd St. and next in 1913 in the Davis house on 3rd St; on
Feb 15, 1914 a son, James Anthony was born, in Mar 1914 the family moved to the
Brown property, in Feb 1915, William was sent to Norristown, Pa. on a hoof and
mouth disease eradication, in Jul 1915 together with the family of R. B.
Boulton, Myra and children moved their household goods to Okla City where they
lived in the Binion property, in July 1916, William and family were transferred
to McAlester, Okla where they lived in the A.U. Thomas property at 515 East
Adams St. on Aug 4, 1917 a daughter Helen Elizabeth Hiatt, was born in the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Alex H. Denham on No. Second St., in July 1918, the family was
transferred to Okla. City where they lived at 427 East 7th St. in the Acuff
property, in Sept 1921, the family moved to Edmond, Okla where they pruchased a
home at 12 North Rankin St. (site now occupied by audtiorium of Central State
Teachers College) in 1925 the family purchased and moved to a home at 329 East
Thatcher St. William continued his employment with the U.S. Department of
Agriculture, Bureau of Animal Industry, stationed at Okla City until his death;
on March 26, 1937, William Leonidas Hiatt died at home in Edmond, Okla.
