Eli Hiatt, Civil War Vet. formerly lived at Sheridan, died a few days ago
at Indinapolis. He will be remembered by many of the older residents of the
north/west part of the County, having moved from that sectin about 25 years
ago. By trade he was a brick mason. He served in the Civil War as a member of the 101st. Infantry and there are Civil War Vets. here who will remember him very well. It is understood here that he had been in poor health several
years.

Found in HH Book. Sent by Myrthilda Lamb. Hiatt book list other children of Enos that are not listed among these children of Enos.

This Enos Hiatt is very confusing, see page 608-609 of Davis, A Quaker
Family by Eleanor Davis. She records that on 10-21-1848 after the marriage of Enos Hiatt and Lydia Davis, an Enos Hiatt was received into membership by
Westfield MM. In 1850 Lewis, Nathan, Eleazar, Sarah Ann, Eliza, Eli and Lydia, children of Enos and Lydia, were received into membership by Westfield MM. They were set off with Hinkles Creek MM that same year, but on 4-3-1851 an Enos Hiatt was disowned by Westfield MM for attending a marriage out of unity.

See Heiss, pt. 6, page 329.
The Hinkles Creek records included the birth of Nathan, Eli, Enos Elwood,
Emily Jane and Lydia Ellen, children of Enos and Lydia. Nathan's birth was
given in abstracts as 10-14-1835. See page 410 of above, Heiss records. In
1855 Enos and Lydia were disowned for disunity.

An Enos Hiatt of Westfield served as a corporal in Co. G., 147th Rgt., from 3-1- to 8-4-1865. When this Enos died, he was buried in Chester Cem., Hamilton Co.
Enos and Lydia apparently lived in Hamilton CO., Ind. in 1870 and 1887 when Lydia Ellen and Nathan married. Eli and Elwood trasferred from Hinkles Creek MM to Noblesville MM in 1893 and 1903, resectively. Lydia Ellen died 8-16-1882 and was buried in Cicero, Ind.
One way or another, some of the above information is garbled. Perhaps
there were two men named Enos Hiatt who married women named Lydia.
From Larry and Tanya Anderson, there were 2 Enos Hiatt's that married
Lydia's, we believe we have these 2 families straightened out.

Information for comparison on Enos Hiatt and Lydia Davis sent by Patricia
Hiatt.
1. Part 6, Indiana Abstract of Quaker Records of Heiss Page 329 - Enos Hiatt
and Lydia Davis married 6-5-1843, Westfield Monthly Meeting.
Page - 296 - Lydia Davis born 12-28-1822

2. Vol 5, Hinshaw Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy, p 246 in 1835 Enos and
Deliah Hiatt were listed as minor children of Solomon and Esther Hiatt; they
came to Westfield Monthly Meeting in Indiana in 1842.

3. Hamilton Co., Indiana Marriage Records
Enos Hiatt married Lydia Davis 1843
Enos Hiatt married Eunice Carney 1 Mar 1856
Enos Hiatt married Emma Orton 7 Jul 1872
I cannot find find a marrage record in Hamilton Co., to show that Enos Hiatt
married Annie Newlin.

4. 1880 Indiana Census, Hamilton Co
Enos Hiatt and wife Emma with Charley age 17, Elmer age 6, Harriet Orton age 23, Absolem Hiatt (grandson) age 3

5. Regarding Enos and Lydia Sullen Hiatt. I have tracked down only a little
of their information. An expert on Quaker meetings in the Indiana and Ohio
area (Roger Boone of Springfield, Ohio) believes that this couple did go on to Iowa after only a brief stay in Ind. He believes that Enos and Lydia Hockett Hiatt were the original members of Hinkle Creek MM. I have traced these families through many MM and have more information but as I don't believe Appanoose Co lists four of the sons: Lorenzo, Lewis, Oren, Zerna and William S.
6. Page 954 of Hiatt-Hiett by Johnson contains mixed information about two
Enos' and two Eli's who were both born ca 1844. I know of other Eli Hiatt's
who were born ca 1844.
Eli son of Curtis and Sabina Moon Hiatt b. Kansas 1935
Eli Hiat b. ca 1844 killed at Shiloah 1862
Eli Hiatt living in Randolph Co., Ind. ca 1880

Eli Hiatt (shown as son of Enos and Lydia Hiatt) married Sarah Stafford
6-1-1867. Part 6, Ind. Quaker Records shows their family. This is probably the same Eli Hiatt who married Elizabeth Gant Skragg 9th mo, 5th day 1911. Eli's birth date is given as 6 Feb 1844 in early records and as 6 Feb 1846 in 1900. In 1900 he is lised as a widower. 1870 Ind. Census, Hamilton Co., Noblesville family #109 is Eli Hiatt age 23 (?) with wife Sarah A. age 24, Mary E age 2, and Lydia A. age 4/12 Found in HH Book. Sent by Myrthilda Lamb. Hiatt book list other children of Enos that are not listed among these children of Enos.
